JOFAT LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
JOFAT-Junior Olympic Fencing Archery Training founded by Professor Harry Baker Jr. at Iron Dragon Kenpo Academy 498 Main St. Orange, NJ, is a New Olympic pathway youth development program that merges two Olympic precision sports – Fencing and Archery -with Martial Arts discipline and STEM education for Central and Northern Jerey residents.
While New Jersey produces elite athletes, youth in Orange, Newark, and surrounding cities have almost zero access to Junior Olympic Fencing or Olympic Archery. These are expensive suburban-based sports. JOFAT changes that.
JOFAT uses the acronym to teach our core values:
J-Junior Olympic Pathway Training aligned with USA Archery Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD), National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) standards , Footwork, blade work, bow mechanics, “SHOT PROCESS’’ and tournament readiness.
O-Olympic Discipline, Focus, respect, mental control, and code of conduct Iron Dragon Code- Voice First, Feet-Second, Hands -Last
F-Focus & Fitness Combines-Kenpo-Karate, agility, Combat Jiu-Jitsu-core strength, and Olympic sport conditioning, Improves concentration for school.
A-Accuracy & Anatomy: Every lunge is physics; every shot is math. Students learn angles, force, vectors, trajectory, breathing control, and anatomy.
T-Technology & Tactics: Modern scoring systems, equipment, engineering and tactical decision-making under pressure.
Led by Professor Harry Baker Jr. .Lincoln Lawerence, JOFAT provides, a safe structural alternative to the street after 3 pm. NO HARD HEAD CONTACT, or EXTREME FRACTURES. All levels welcome.
The Need in Central Jersey & Northern New Jersey
Access Cap: Junior Olympic Fencing and concentrated in affluent Central Jersey suburbs. Families in Orange (07050), East Orange, Newark, Paterson, and Trenton find it difficult to afford $300 -$500/month plus equipment.
Opportunity Gap: NJ student athletes of color are severely underrepresented in USA Fencing and USA Archery Junior Olympus pipelines.
Safety& STEM Gap: The rise in concussions in contact sports are concerns to modern parents. Youth need programs with a low incidence of injuries that teach precision patience and science -not just aggression. Fencing and Archery are moving physics labs.
